First grader learns importance of working for needs and wants

Our first grade program, JA Our Families®, introduces students to entrepreneurship and how family members’ jobs and businesses contribute to the well-being of the family.

In one particular lesson students choose a chore or task around the house they would like to make a coupon for, to present to their families in exchange for a need or want.

Hannah (pictured above) is a first grader at Pickett Elementary. Her coupon is good for cutting the grass at home. She currently shares a bedroom with her younger sister and dreams of moving down the hall into her own room. With no expiration date, Hannah counts on using her coupon for as long as it takes until she has a bedroom of her own!
